- Phuket Patong Tips – Tours and Tickets
In this article, we have summarized 14 tips that have something for everyone. These range from nightlife on Bangla Road to quiet beaches like Tri Trang Beach or great sunset spots. There is a lot to discover when you visit Patong, and it certainly won’t be boring here.
How to Get to Phuket
There are many ways to get to Phuket, the most chosen one is the airplane. Phuket airport is approached by several airlines within Thailand, but also by flights from Europe, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and more. All flights as well as duration, connections and prices are best compared on Skyscanner.
Furthermore, you can travel by bus from many different places in Thailand, such as Krabi, Bangkok, Khao Lak etc. or just take the boat to Phuket. There are e.g. ferries from Koh Phi Phi or Koh Yao Yai. You can find more bus and boat connections on 12go.asia. There you can also book tickets directly. A train to Phuket does currently not exist.
Accommodation on Phuket – Our Hotel Tip
The Graceland Resort is located in the north of Patong Beach, separated from the beach only by the Beach Road. It features two outdoor pools, four restaurants, a spa, and a bowling alley. The rooms are modernly furnished with wooden floors and offer a TV, refrigerator, coffee and tea making facilities, as well as a private bathroom. Additionally, breakfast is served daily. You can work out in the fitness center or book activities at the tour desk.
For more accommodations in Patong or other parts of Phuket, the best overview can be found here.
1. Patong Beach
Patong Beach is probably the most famous beach in Phuket. It offers fine sand and clear water, making it ideal for swimming. There are also various water sports available on the beach, including jet skiing and parasailing for the adventurous. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas on-site and have local vendors supply you with food and drinks.
During the high season, however, Patong Beach can get very crowded. The central area is particularly busy at this time. The southern and northern parts of Patong Beach are a bit quieter. Whether you prefer a lively atmosphere or seek peace on the beach, both are possible at Patong Beach – you just need to find the right spot.
Although Patong Beach is not our personal favorite due to the crowds, it is still one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket. We love Patong Beach in the early morning when the umbrellas are not yet set up, most visitors are still asleep, and it exudes a wonderful tranquility.
2. Freedom Beach
Freedom Beach is located just south of Patong on the west coast, but it’s relatively hidden. You can either reach it by longtail boat from Patong (around 750 Baht per boat) or by scooter or car. Shortly after you leave Patong heading towards Karon, you need to turn right and drive up a hill. There is free parking available on site.
If you take the 450-meter path through the jungle, then the visit is also free of charge. But it is quite strenuous, and you should definitely bring water on this path. Once you arrive at Freedom Beach, you’ll find turquoise water, white sand, and unfortunately, despite the seclusion, usually many people. At least in the high season, as many sun umbrellas are set up there. There is also a beach bar and a vending stand at the beach to supply you with drinks or food.
3. Tri Trang Beach
Tri Trang Beach is located just south of Patong in a small, quiet bay. Although it is not far from the popular Patong Beach, it is much more relaxed. Sometimes it is even quite empty, and you can always find a secluded spot under the shade of the trees. The beach impresses with its fine, light sand and crystal-clear water, which invites you to swim.
To get to Tri Trang Beach, you need to drive south on the Patong Beach Road and turn left at the roundabout instead of right onto Beach Road. The path leads you briefly along the coast and then up a hill. Follow the road continuously. Shortly after the Marriott Hotel, which is on the right, you will reach your destination. Some exclusive hotels near the beach, such as the Rosewood Phuket, promise relaxation and luxury to their guests.
However, you don’t have to be a guest to enter the beach. There are free accesses, the most obvious being where you see the Tri Trang Beach sign on the right. You should note when visiting that the beach becomes noticeably shallower at low tide, and you will need to walk a bit further into the water to swim. At Tri Trang Beach, you can relax in peace and enjoy the paradisiacal atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of Patong, which is why the beach definitely belongs in our Patong tips.
4. Paradise Beach
The small Paradise Beach, which is only 150 meters long, is located at the end of the road you followed to Tri Trang Beach. It is secluded and operated by the Paradise Beach Club Phuket, which requires an entrance fee of 200 Baht. However, this entrance fee provides numerous amenities, such as a beach volleyball court, sun loungers, and three restaurants (Italian, Chinese, and Thai).
Additional activities, such as kayaking, SUP paddleboarding, or diving, are available for an extra charge. In this secluded bay, there are no beach vendors, and another highlight is the monthly Full Moon Party held on the beach with international DJs. Admission usually costs around 1000 Baht and often includes a free cocktail or something similar.
5. Bangla Road
If you are keen to discover the vibrant heart of the Patong nightlife, there is no way around Bangla Road in Patong. By daylight, the street appears unremarkable with a row of shops, including the well-known Central Patong shopping mall that makes every shopper’s heart beat faster.
However, once the sun goes down, Bangla Road transforms into a pedestrian zone and reveals its true character. A variety of bars and nightclubs line the street – from cozy bars with live music to pulsating nightclubs like Illuzion, there is something for every taste. Everywhere you go, you encounter street vendors and promoters, adding extra flair to the scene. With its colorful and dynamic atmosphere, Bangla Road is the number one Patong tip for nightlife.
6. Wat Doi Thep Nimit Monastery
In the hills of Patong, the temple of Wat Doi Thep Nimit Monastery stands as one of our Patong tips away from the masses. Its white pagoda is visible from many parts of Patong. The access to the temple is somewhat hidden, right next to the Chinese shrine, when you take the road over the hills from Patong to Phuket Town.
The path up can be very steep at times, so caution is advised. When you arrive, you will be greeted by a heavenly tranquility, as there are only a few visitors on site and the temple is still considered a hidden gem. Besides the Chedi, which is surrounded by a 7-headed Naga, the temple offers a breathtaking view of Patong. Admission to the temple is free, and it is best visited during the day.
7. Shopping Malls
The Jungceylon Shopping Mall in Patong is a large, modern shopping center. Here you will find a wide variety of shops, including international brands like Apple and Superdry as well as local craft shops offering clothing, electronics, souvenirs, and more. Additionally, there are a number of restaurants serving both Thai and international cuisine, as well as a food court with affordable and tasty dishes.
In the evening, you can enjoy an impressive water and light show about the history of Phuket for free. Another highlight for families with young children is Kidzoona, an indoor playground with climbing structures, slides, ball pits, and interactive games. Prices range from 200 to 400 Baht, making it a good option on rainy days in Phuket.
Directly opposite the Jungceylon Shopping Mall is Central Patong. Here too, a huge shopping mall has been built, extending to the popular Bangla Road, and besides various shopping options, it also has a food court. With these two shopping malls in the heart of Patong, you are sure to get your money’s worth if you are looking for original goods.
8. Muay Thai Fights
In Patong, there is a vibrant Muay Thai scene, as the Thai boxing sport is a fascinating and traditional martial art that is very popular throughout Thailand. When you visit Patong, you have the opportunity to experience various Muay Thai fights in the evening. There are several arenas where the fights take place. The two most famous stadiums are the Bangla Boxing Stadium and the Patong Boxing Stadium.
There, you can experience the captivating fights up close and admire the athletes’ skills. The stadiums often offer evening events with multiple fights, accompanied by traditional music and a great atmosphere. Ticket prices start at 1500 Baht. If you want to sit right by the ring, you usually have to pay a bit more. You can buy tickets for the Bangla Boxing Stadium and the Patong Boxing Stadium either on-site or online.
9. Go-Kart Racing
A bit outside of Patong towards Phuket Town, shortly after you cross the mountains, there are two exciting Go-Kart tracks. The Phuket Kart Speedway and the Patong Go-Kart Speedway. They offer rides for all ages and driving experience levels. Even double karts are available, allowing parents to ride together with their children. Whether you want to race with your friends or spend an unforgettable day with your family, Go-Kart racing is a popular activity in Patong.
The Go-Kart tracks are well-equipped and offer various types of karts, from those for beginners to more powerful models for experienced drivers. Safety is a top priority, and all necessary equipment, including helmets and seat belts, is provided. There are also professional instructions for first-time drivers to ensure that all participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Prices vary but start at around 600 Baht for a 10-minute ride. They are open daily from 9:00 or 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You can also book this activity in advance as a tour, which includes round-trip transfers.
10. Sea Sky Café
Hidden in the hills above Patong lies the Sea Sky Café. Our Patong tip for a beautiful sunset. It offers seating with delicious food and drinks at really fair prices. The highlight of the café is the spectacular 180-degree panoramic view of Patong Bay. Especially at dusk, when the sky is bathed in vibrant hues and the sun approaches sea level.
Amidst this setting, the Sea Sky Café offers an oasis of tranquility, ideal for unwinding and fully enjoying the hopefully magnificent sunset. Thanks to its great location, the café remains largely untouched by the crowds, ensuring that early visitors always snag the best viewing spot.
11. Football Crazy Golf
Just a short drive, about 10 minutes away from Patong, lies the Football Crazy Golf Phuket. The route takes you over the hills from Patong towards Phuket Town. Shortly after you descend the hills, look out for a go-kart track on your right. Turn left here and follow the road around the bend. On your right-hand side, you will now see Football Crazy Golf.
Football Crazy Golf is an attraction that promises entertainment for various groups of visitors – whether you are with family, friends, or as a couple. Unlike traditional golf, which involves small balls, here you play on an 18-hole course with a football. The course is dotted with a variety of creative obstacles, like bunkers and tunnels, suitable for players of all skill levels. The average playtime is approximately 90 minutes.
Additionally, a pickup service from various points on the island is offered, making it easier to get there. Opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Admission prices start at 800 Baht for adults and 400 Baht for children, with the option for group discounts for larger parties. Just speak to the friendly owners about it.
12. Kathu Waterfall
Kathu Waterfall is located about halfway between Patong and Phuket Town. However, it is still one of our Patong tips and is easily accessible by motorcycle or car. Parking is available on site, and entry to the waterfall is free. The path to the waterfall involves a 130-meter-long staircase from the parking lot, which, although short, can be strenuous.
However, you will be rewarded with a refreshing dip in the natural pools of Kathu Waterfall. Note that the water level may be lower during the hot season, for example, in April. The waterfall is especially idyllic and impressive during or shortly after the rainy season (May to October).
13. Surf House Patong
Patong Surf House is the right place for you if you want to try surfing. From beginners to experienced surfers, there is something for everyone here. Located directly on Beach Road, just a short distance north of the lively Bangla Road, this attraction offers a unique experience. And all this regardless of the weather conditions. On artificially generated waves, you can learn the basics of surfing or improve your skills.
Patong Surf House offers a wide range of activities. From beginner courses that teach the basics to advanced training that delves into the intricacies of surfing. The facility is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and prices start at around 800 Baht per hour. Depending on the duration of the lesson and the chosen package, the prices can, of course, be higher.
14. Simon Cabaret Show
This is also part of Thailand and, therefore, a part of our Phuket Patong tips. If you are interested in this topic, you should definitely check it out!
The Simon Cabaret is an established drag show that has been in operation since 1991 and is considered one of the most visited cabarets in all of Southeast Asia. The talented performers offer an engaging show full of glamour and entertainment, including colorful performances of singing, dancing, and comedy. Three shows are offered daily at 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM, and 9:00 PM. Prices vary depending on the seating category and range between 800 and 1000 Baht. Tickets are available at many travel agencies in Patong or online with our partner.
