The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers, are the most famous landmark of the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Everyone associates these impressive buildings with the city, and you can see them from many parts of KL. They also appear in some Hollywood productions and are simply stunning. We visit them almost every time we are in Kuala Lumpur because the Suria KLCC shopping mall is truly worth a visit as well.

The twin towers with their Skybridge are on the list for many visitors. Whether it’s just to admire them from the outside or to visit the observation decks. After many trips to Kuala Lumpur, we finally made our way up the Petronas Towers. Everything you need to know for a visit to the Petronas Towers can be found here.
Accommodation in Kuala Lumpur – Our Hotel Tip
In order to best explore Kuala Lumpur, it’s important that the accommodation has a good location. Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral is located almost directly at one of Kuala Lumpur’s main train stations – KL Sentral. From there you can easily take long-haul trains, commuter trains and buses to almost every neighborhood/place in Kuala Lumpur and the rest of Malaysia. The rooms are super modern and there is also a swimming pool.

How to Get to the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
The easiest way to reach the Petronas Twin Towers is by taking the Kelana Jaya Line, the train in Kuala Lumpur, to the KLCC station. You need to take the train towards Gombak. Along the way, you will pass stations near famous attractions like Pasar Seni (Chinatown), Masjid Jamek, or Kampung Baru. You can also take the train from KL Sentral station. A ticket from KL Sentral to the KLCC station at the Petronas Towers costs 2.40 MYR, and the 5 stops take about 10 minutes.
Alternatives include taking a taxi, but you should use the Grab App to get a fair and safe price. Walking is also possible. Depending on where you are in Kuala Lumpur, the walk can be quite long and exhausting in Malaysia’s heat. We definitely recommend taking the train.
Suria KLCC and KLCC Park
Right next to the Petronas Towers is the Suria KLCC shopping mall with the adjoining KLCC Park. KLCC stands for Kuala Lumpur City Center. The shopping center opened in 1998 and spans 6 floors with around 350 stores.

The KLCC Park also opened in 1998 and offers a green oasis in Kuala Lumpur: lawns, a jogging track, a playground, and a swimming pool for children, as well as the Lake Symphony, a 10,000 m² lake that features an evening light and water fountain show.
Info: To try Malaysian cuisine or many international dishes, be sure to visit the food court in Suria KLCC. There is a wide variety at relatively affordable prices, making it perfect for spending your lunch there. There are also plenty of seats available on-site, and many locals come here to eat as well.
Opening Hours and Tickets for the Petronas Towers
The Petronas Twin Towers are open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Exceptions are Monday (closed) and Friday between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. Tickets cost 80 MYR for adults and 33 MYR for children (ages 3–12). Seniors (61+) receive a discounted price of 42 MYR.
You can purchase tickets in person at the entrance starting at 8:30 AM. However, the number of tickets is limited each day. We recommend booking your tickets in advance. They can even be delivered to your hotel.

The entrance to visit the Skybridge and observation decks of the Petronas Towers is easy to find. If you enter through the main entrance between the two towers, you will walk straight into the Suria KLCC mall. If you go to the right or left instead, you will find an escalator on the opposite side leading down to the entrance, clearly signposted.
Arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled time with your ticket. First, you will go through a security check similar to an airport. You’ll receive a colored sticker and wait until your group color is called. Then, you’ll take the elevator to the first stop: the Petronas Towers Skybridge.
Facts About the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
Here are a few quick and interesting facts. If you’re not into trivia, feel free to skip this section:
- 88 floors
- Total height of 452 meters
- Opened on 31 August 1999
- Tallest building in Malaysia
- Tallest twin towers in the world
- The spires are designed to resemble minarets
View from the Petronas Towers Skybridge
Your first stop is the 41st floor, where the famous Skybridge is located. The stop is limited to 10 minutes, giving you enough time to enjoy the view and take some photos from both sides of the bridge.

The Skybridge is located 172 meters above the ground and spans two floors: the 41st and 42nd. Visitors can only access the 41st floor, while the 42nd floor is reserved for employees. Take your time to look around, snap some memorable photos, and enjoy the panorama.

Once your Skybridge time is up, you’ll continue to the observation decks located higher in the towers. Staff will call your group based on the color of your sticker, and the tour continues from there.

First Observation Deck of the Petronas Towers
Finally, you continue to the 86th floor, where you will again spend 15 minutes. In addition to exhibitions about Kuala Lumpur, the highlight here is the much higher view at 367 meters. Unfortunately, you can only enjoy the view through windows, which is sometimes not ideal for taking photos.
Tip: We usually press our cameras or phones directly against the window to avoid reflections in the photos. It’s not quite as good as an open-air view, but still better than nothing.

You can take your time to look around, take photos, use the binoculars, and you should also take a peek into the restroom. Here, you also have a fantastic view and usually some quiet away from the other visitors.

Second Observation Deck of the Petronas Towers
Then you take the elevator three floors down to the 83rd floor, which is the last stop of the Petronas Towers tour.

You get a few more views of Kuala Lumpur or the second tower of the Petronas Towers here, before heading back down to the ground and exiting through the souvenir shop. This ends the visit after about 45 minutes.

Note: Of course, you can find souvenirs in many places in Kuala Lumpur, but since you are already here, you might as well have a look inside. Maybe you’ll find a keepsake you’d like to take home.
Conclusion of Visiting the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
Visiting the Petronas Twin Towers had been on our list for a long time, but somehow, during all our countless stays in Kuala Lumpur, we never made it. Now we finally did, and it was definitely worth it. The view over KL is fantastic, and you can see all the way to the mountains in the hinterland. Unfortunately, the weather was not favorable. It was partly rainy, dark, and cloudy when we arrived at the top.

One disadvantage is that the Petronas Towers themselves are missing from the Kuala Lumpur skyline view, as you are inside them. Otherwise, the visit was truly one of our Kuala Lumpur highlights, with two other drawbacks. First, there is no open observation deck, so you can only take photos through windows, and second, the visit is limited to a total of 45 minutes. Without these limitations, the experience would be even better. But 45 minutes is usually enough, otherwise you would just keep taking the same photos in the end.
