Hi there I am wondering if you could give me some advice. I usually go to Thailand (Krabi/Phi Phi/Phuket etc) and would like to try somewhere in Indonesia. I was looking at Lombok but most of the beaches there seem to require a bike or transport.
I’d like an island where I can base myself there and have a nice beach and a few different restaurants within walking distance plus options to do daytrips to nearby islands. Can you suggest an area in Lombok for that? I was looking at the Gili islands but I’ve read lots of reports that there is tonnes of dead coral around and they are not that great for actually swimming.
Thanks!
Hi Bav,
basically, you can’t directly compare Indonesia to Thailand. It’s completely different, however, Lombok has some amazing beaches and many areas that you can explore. Maybe Kuta Lombok area is a place for you?

Hi Toby and Marcel, I m really interested in your blog. W are going to Bali for last August but we dont know where to stay Kuta or Nusa Dua.
Two years ago we traveled to Phuket, patong in Janiuvery, the night life was perfect and the day trips to Islands especially phi phi was spectacular.
We want to know that is the night life and massage are the same in Bali
and the scenery in Bali and Glili in august as beautiful as phuket.
Thank you so much
P.S. Also have you ever gone to cyprus , aya napa or Bolgari, varna or have any information about the compared to Bali.
Hi Eli,
Kuta is the number 1 nightlife spot in Bali. To be honest, not my favorite spot. Nusa Dua is more quiet and I think if you’re looking for places where you can go out at night, it will not be the best choice. If you liked Patong, Kuta Bali will be the best option for you.
You can book any tours from any place in Bali. Make sure to visit the Gili Islands or Lombok.
Sorry, I have never been to Cyprus so I can’t compare 😉

Hi. Love your blog 🙂
I am from Brazil and I bought a tichek to Cingapura for january 14th. I will have 17 days to discovery Asia. I am thinking about going to Thailand, Bali and Maldives but a friend tolds me that Lombok should be better than Bali (7 days of trip). What do you think?
I just want to know The culture and see the natural beauty of this places. I dont know when I will have this opportunity again and thats why I want to go to many places in my days travelling. Sorry my english.
I hope you can help me.
Hi Luna,
Obrigado for your comment 😉
In my opinion Lombok has more beautiful beaches than Bali. But Bali is still a nice place (not everywhere) and I think you will enjoy it. There are way more tourists than on Lombok. Lombok is never too crowded and you can enjoy many quiet and authentic places (except the famous Gili Islands). If you’re looking for nightlife or party however, Lombok is not the best choice.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.
Best regards
Marcel
