After 4 days in the hectic city of Ho Chi Minh City we definitely needed some relaxation and tranquility. The Vietnamese island Phu Quoc is a perfect place for this since it has to offer many amazing and calm beaches, as well as beautiful hotels and resorts.

Hotel review: Castaways Resort Phu Quoc

Today we want to give you information and a review on our accommodation on Phu Quoc, the Castaways Resort at Long Beach.

Location

The Castaways is only located 10 minutes away from the international airport. It’s situated directly at the big road that leads to the main town of Duong Dong. Nearby you can find lots of restaurants, shops and supermarkets, ATMs and much more.

Therefore, the location is very good though, the Castaways is not directly at the beach. But to the beautiful Long Beach – the island’s longest stretch of sand with its pretty sunsets – it’s only a few minutes walk. Also, you can reach the main town within only a few minutes. There are taxis waiting day and night directly in front of the resort, that can bring you there.

The resort and the rooms

Directly after the not even one-hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City, we were picked up and friendly welcomed at the reception on arrival. Also, the check-in went by very quickly and so we could enter our rooms right away. We felt well immediately – a perfect first impression!

The Castaways Resort offers 5 different room categories: Economy, Standard, Superior, Deluxe und Highland Suite.

We’ve stayed in a 38m² big Deluxe Bungalow, which offers a nice small terrace and is equipped with everything you need: a comfortable bed, air conditioning, TV, fridge and minibar, a desk etc. The rooms and the bathrooms are quite new, clean and simply in a very good condition.

Obviously, for us a good wifi connection was obligatory. Here we were not disappointed also and had a good and stable connection throughout our stay.

The whole resort area looks good and also the garden is well maintained. Although the staff members speak only little/basic English, they are all very friendly and ready to help.

The Castaways also offers a swimming pool with loungers, if you need some cooling down and don’t want to go to the beach. Especially after a long motorbike tour we loved to spend some time here.

The resort itself doesn’t have a restaurant that offers lunch or dinner. Since there are many restaurants and bars near the resort, this isn’t bad at all. Along the main road to Duong Dong you can find many food stalls for the small hunger that offer for example Banh Mi – one of our favorite Vietnamese dishes that you definitely should try, too.

For breakfast you can choose between bread with egg and sausage, fried rice with seafood, fried noodles with seafood or a seafood soup. I, personally, liked especially the seafood soup. Along with it you can enjoy a delicious Vietnamese ice coffee, a perfect start in the day!

By the way, directly at the reception you can book tours or rent motorbikes and explore Phu Quoc this way. We definitely recommend you a motorbike tour so you can see the island on your own. The resort offers both parking areas and a security guard during night time.

Résumé

Tobi and me had an amazing time on Phu Quoc and the stay in the Castaways Resort played a very big part in it. We immediately felt well in our Deluxe rooms and I would stay there again anytime! The resort’s motto “Come as a traveler. Leave as a friend.” is absolutely appropriate.

We give you a definite recommendation, if you’re looking for a beautiful accommodation on Phu Quoc and it’s ok for you not staying directly at the beach.
