Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.
Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.
This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.
Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.
The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.
Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!
Bustling city that was very managable. A gem after visiting Bangkok with clean air and traffic not too bad. Many options for cheap and local eats plus some western fast food mixed in for those wanting a taste. Many markets abound with local food options and items for sale. Easy to navigate. Inexpensive massages sprinkled throughout town. Visited with elephants about an hour outside town with nice facilities. Watched some food reviews on YouTube to provide us guidance then visited them with delight.

A big city with rather polluted air, though much better than Bangkok.
Countless amazing Buddhist temples.
The city feels safe except for the traffic.
People are friendly.
Markets are everywhere selling food to clothes and everything else.
Chiang Mai is close to green hills and beautiful nature.
Like everywhere else in Thailand plenty of delicious tropical fruits.
A great place for high quality, relatively low-cost dentistry.
Restaurants, bars, Thai - massage, foot-massage, everywhere.

Chiang Mai is a great city to visit, lots of activities and attractions in the area but more laid back compared to Bangkok. A good central hub for day tours to waterfalls, temples and markets.
Easy to get around using Grab or Bolt, or there are always taxis and tuktuks around all major areas.
The Sunday night market in Old Town, Night Bazaar and Baan Kan Wat are must-dos.

Everyone expects different things but I was happy with what we did. We were told about The Faces restaurant which was very beautiful to look at. I have to say though that the Wua Lai Boutique did very good meals too. They arranged a driver for us one day and he took us to some temples and gardens which we enjoyed.

Chiang Mai became one of my most favorite cities of all time, almost instantly. Old Town is full of gardens, plants, finest architecture, cafes and restaurants. The jazz club at North Gate is a must visit at Saturday nights. People are respectful. Coffees are divine. Just outside old city you would find it difficult to choose between the night markets. All the temples are beautiful and there are more than 300 of them. The city celebrates new year (Songkran) in another level- this means it's amazing but not for the weak. Last not for the least; enterance of an olympic pool surrounded by banana trees is 80 baths.

I went to Chiang Mai on a workation and was there for 6 days. There are good markets, restaurants and sights to see. The temples, and there are a lot of them, were stunning. All in all, a great trip. The Thai smiles and hospitality without the craziness of other Thai locations. A relaxed and friendly vibe.

Location was superb. One side was Maya shopping centre, the other was One Nimman. There were a lot of cafes and eateries within the area. Area wasn’t as conjested as Old City which was a plus. View was good (facing Doi Suthep). Liked the hotel app that can arrange for room makeup time & request for top-up of amenities. Breakfast buffet was filling and good variety - best was the fresh juices served.
Great location. Close to Chiang Mai market. Thapae gate. One can walk all around the old city and visit many temples. I recommend the Don Sutep temple evening tour if you want to see something outside of the hotel area.
Night market is also a good walk away. Overall great location and good size room.
Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
A truly delightful stay with warm, attentive service from all the staff.
Modern, spotless rooms and complimentary coffee and water available all day.
The hotel’s location is perfect just a 5-minute walk to Tha Phae Gate and the Old City.
We would love to return for another memorable stay.
Its a small and cozy hotel, in the best place of the old city. You are close to the temples, to the street markets, the turism agencies. The staff is very lovely.
