FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!

Just an all round balance not too busy not too quiet. Everything close to hand at affordable prices within the Old City. Lots to do and see both in the Old City and outside. Great people, great food, great park and atmosphere. Markets are awesome catering for everything from food to a multitude of souvenirs. I would love to live here.

Bustling city that was very managable. A gem after visiting Bangkok with clean air and traffic not too bad. Many options for cheap and local eats plus some western fast food mixed in for those wanting a taste. Many markets abound with local food options and items for sale. Easy to navigate. Inexpensive massages sprinkled throughout town. Visited with elephants about an hour outside town with nice facilities. Watched some food reviews on YouTube to provide us guidance then visited them with delight.

A big city with rather polluted air, though much better than Bangkok. Countless amazing Buddhist temples. The city feels safe except for the traffic. People are friendly. Markets are everywhere selling food to clothes and everything else. Chiang Mai is close to green hills and beautiful nature. Like everywhere else in Thailand plenty of delicious tropical fruits. A great place for high quality, relatively low-cost dentistry. Restaurants, bars, Thai - massage, foot-massage, everywhere.

Chiang Mai is a great city to visit, lots of activities and attractions in the area but more laid back compared to Bangkok. A good central hub for day tours to waterfalls, temples and markets. Easy to get around using Grab or Bolt, or there are always taxis and tuktuks around all major areas. The Sunday night market in Old Town, Night Bazaar and Baan Kan Wat are must-dos.

Everyone expects different things but I was happy with what we did. We were told about The Faces restaurant which was very beautiful to look at. I have to say though that the Wua Lai Boutique did very good meals too. They arranged a driver for us one day and he took us to some temples and gardens which we enjoyed.

Chiang Mai became one of my most favorite cities of all time, almost instantly. Old Town is full of gardens, plants, finest architecture, cafes and restaurants. The jazz club at North Gate is a must visit at Saturday nights. People are respectful. Coffees are divine. Just outside old city you would find it difficult to choose between the night markets. All the temples are beautiful and there are more than 300 of them. The city celebrates new year (Songkran) in another level- this means it's amazing but not for the weak. Last not for the least; enterance of an olympic pool surrounded by banana trees is 80 baths.

The room was large as it had a kitchen and sitting area as well as bedroom. Was nice to have a pool but it was cold which was no surprise as hotels do not heat their pools. The staff were very helpful with a lock box at reception. Location was good with a mini mart (Lotus) a half block away, a few restaurants within walking distance and also a 15 min walk to the East side of the old city, for shops, markets and night market.

I have stayed at Por Thapae Gate and another place on the west side of Old City, definitely POR has the best location. Great food, massage, yoga, night markets all within 5-10 mins walk! Also love the free flow cold water and fruits, water machines, and breakfast selection - truly a luxury! It is also very quiet as it’s in a small lane and most of all, the staff is truly the best! 100% will be back if the hotel is available!

Nice little boutique hotel if you are coming to CM for a few days. The rooms are pretty much a best and a rudimentary bathroom. The location is great and it is near market, old city and cafes, bars and shops - but is down a quiet street and is quiet.
