Breakfast was excellent at this location, in fact, the best hotel breakfast on my trip, and they had a wide variety of Western and Japanese choices. They even had roast beef as a choice. The rooms were pretty spacious for a Japanese hotel, and I liked the fact that the sink area was outside of the toilet and bathing area. The Onsen was nice, but basic. The location was exceptional, just across the street from the South side of Kyoto Station with a Family Mart and 7/11 in the same block and a mall across the street. The South side of the station is less busy than the North side, so that was nice. You could still easily catch a taxi at the taxi stand across the street. The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly, spoke English and attentive

You can get everything you are looking for: a lot of touristic objects, nice food, convenient public transport, shopping, but also spiritual experiences if you are open and looking for it. What I missed , coz socialized in Europe (Germany) are places to sit in the gardens/ parks in and around the locations people are visiting or cafes where you can chill for longer or reading a book.

We had a short trip, arriving lunchtime one day and leaving late afternoon the next day. We visitied the Fushimi Inari Shrine the first afternoon and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. The next morning we went early to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple by bus and then to the Kyoto Railway Museum. If we had longer, we could have fitted in a few more sites, but we were pressed for time, so only chose a couple of things to do.

I love Kyoto. Have been several times. One does not need to see all the highlights. This city is so rich in sights, that you just need to walk around. Higashiyama is the best place to just wander. One can avoid the tour bus parking lots and find quiet. The big flea market was incredible and worth hours.

Kyoto is truly one of my favorite cities in Japan—a perfect blend of timeless tradition and vibrant modern life. Beyond its iconic shrines, temples, and historic landmarks, the city reveals its soul in the quiet backstreets, charming neighborhoods, and bike-friendly boulevards. There’s a warmth here—a subtle hospitality—that sets it apart from other cities its size. While popular tourist spots buzz with activity, we found the most memorable moments in the tucked-away restaurants and serene corners that welcomed us with unforgettable food and heartfelt experiences. I highly recommend exploring Kyoto’s quieter side—you’ll find its true magic there.

We loved Kyoto had a lovely safe vibe about it. At the time there was the Gion Festival (Gion Matsuri) is Kyoto's most famous festival, held throughout the month of July so it was very very busy on a couple of the days but it still felt very safe and well organised and everyone was friendly and cheerful

Kyoto was lively and had lots gong for it. Lots of temples/shrines to visit. Kyoto was very hot in July so please bear that in mind! To avoid the sun we took the sightseeing bus and hopped on and off at places we wanted to see in depth. Lots of places to eat too around Gion.

The concept is so cool — each room is designed by a different Japanese artist, so it felt like I was staying inside an art gallery. Super creative, visually stunning, and definitely a unique experience. I loved the bold design and the fact that it didn’t feel like your typical hotel — it’s giving boutique, edgy, and aesthetic. Perfect for photos and artsy vibes. Breakfast was also the best I had in Japan (for an aussie meal).

Great location. On one of the main roads with a family mart next to the hotel and an easy walk to the nearest subway station. Free tea and coffee in reception. Probably the best hotel that we stayed in on our trip. The rooms were super comfy and also had a sofa and a small space to hang your clothes, which we didn’t find in any other rooms.
