Chaweng has something for everyone. we were 2 50+ adults with our 28 year old son and girlfriend. They enjoyed the nightlife on the strip with some friends and we enjoyed some lovely lunches and and beach days in a nice resort whilst they recovered from the nights excesses. You can arrange excursions to other islands easily. I would caution against staying up the big hills as it puts the taxi drivers off.Guest review bybeverleyUnited Kingdom - Review score

There are a lot of options in Lamai, we were able to walk into the town for the Night Market (although the taxi fares to go the short distance home were very high!) We also did a fabulous cooking class near Lamai.Guest review byCathyAustralia - Review score

I prefer to always stay on Bophut beach as I love the quietness and also at night the walking street is closed to cars so you can walk at your own leisure without having to worry about cars and bikes. The walking street is full of great restaurants to eat at with the most amazing food, even the food market is worth a visit with its entertainment and street food. Some of the restaurants we ate at were Bacaba, The Shack, Patuy restaurant, Nahm, 2 fishes, all amazing. We even hired a car and driver one day who drove us around the island.Guest review byJenAustralia - Review score
Mae Nam doesn’t have the best beach, and is a busy area.
Mae Nam doesn’t have the best beach, and is a busy area. We have been to several areas of Thailand, and we found Koh Samui in general to be very busy and not that well maintained considering it is such a popular tourist island. There is no doubt that Fisherman’s Village is a very popular town, but it is very touristy and lacks the relaxed Thai experience that we are looking for.Guest review byJuliaUnited Kingdom - Review score

Very close to the airport, 10 min by car, perfect for the first few days on the island or the last few prior to departure. Next time i will stay the first 5 days here to get off the jetlag, and the last 2 day before heading out. the ferry to koh phangan is, depending on the hotel, in walking distance.Guest review bypeterunterkoflerAustria - Review score
This is a great tourist destination.
This is a great tourist destination. Glad we went during the low-season as it made for small, tolerable crowds. Plenty of activities and sights to do and see - we only brushed the surface with our short time there. Go for at least one week. Two would be better. The surrounding Gulf of Thailand offered lake-like calm, turquoise waters. Views everywhere are stunning. We Weill have to return again in the future. Highly recommend, especially the low-season.Guest review byLorentzUnited States - Review score
Samui has a lot to offer for many travellers.
Samui has a lot to offer for many travellers. We have been there many times already and do prefer the "small rainy season" (so, not high season). Everything is a bit more laid back, less overcrowded. We go for sports and recreation. For that, Lamai (the place we found out suites us best) is perfect. You find great food (seafood, Thai, also now some really good coffeeshops if you have a longing). While it is also ok for children, be aware, that walkways are somewhat overrated in Lamai. Pushing forward a stroller might become more of an exercise and costs some nerves too. The most crazy people on scooters are....yes - we "westerners". Never sure whether some guys want to impress the locals or just feel untouchable, but some are racing like crazy. Given Thai traffic is more on the careful side (using blinker!), racing tourists are a real threat to almost everybody. Sights of people with armslings and wrapped legs are not uncommon... All in all - hasslefree great holidays. Look for sportsclubs, Yoga, and great Thai food!Guest review byRetoSwitzerland - Review score
I wouldn't go back.
I wouldn't go back. I was so disappointed by Koh Samui, I thought it was a nice place to go but aside from beautiful beaches and the views from the mountains, its really rough and run down. Chaweng itself is like Magaluf. The strip is awful. But if you like that then you'd probably like it but not being a drinker or a partier I really hated it. We did however eat at some really great restaurants all over Koh SamuiGuest review byCharlotteUnited Kingdom - Review score
Loved our room! It was very spacious, clean & comfortable.
Loved our room! It was very spacious, clean & comfortable. The bed and pillows met our expectations. The pool was huge! Great for children or grown ups. A very ambient, quiet resort set on the beach front. The beach chairs are very comfortable and the best place to chill with a book or take in the amazing views. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The location is very peaceful and we ordered a taxi or grab to go to dinner in the evening. We had drinks at the Hotel pub one evening. Overall a great stay & value for the rates. The breakfast was sufficient …eggs and fresh fruit/toast/pastries. Handy if you have a motor bike to get around the Island as grab is expensive. .Guest review byAnonymous
